This cd is the fourth of the complete Tampa Red and covers the years 1930 and 1931. Included here are three different versions of his classic “You Rascal You” with slight variations in the lyrics, the best being under the monikers of “Tampa Red and his Hokum Jug Band”. A couple of guitar solos (Boogie Woogie Dance, Bumble Bee Blues) are here to remind us why he was dubbed as the steel guitar wizard. The rest alternates hokum, dance tunes (They Call It The Boogie Woogie) and strictly blues songs like Sad New Blues, Depression Blues (both barely audible) or Things Bout Coming My Way a variation around “Sittin On The Top Of The World”. Some tunes feature just Red with his guitar while others benefit of a piano, a second guitaror the previously mentionned jug band.Four sides (3 to 6) are sung by Sweet Papa Tadpole. Except for some minor exception this side have been well preserved and the overall quality is pretty good.
